A Tool To Promote Wellness
The word Reiki (pronounced ray-key) means Universal Light Energy, and was brought to this earth in 1922 by Dr Mikao Usui.
Reiki is a Japanese method of energy healing where the practitioner has been attuned to a specific channel allowing Reiki energy to flow through the Reiki practitioner's hands and into the client. The practitioner acts as a conduit for the Reiki energy.
The Reiki Energy dislodges negative behavior patterns and negative emotions and thoughts that cause disease. Reiki balances our vibrations and enables healing and creates a better sense of well-being. Reiki frees and aligns the body's energy system which releases pain on all levels, emotional, physical, mental and spiritual. It opens and unblocks blocked pathways and meridians in our bodies. Reiki is suitable for everyone of all ages and backgrounds.*

The Spirit of Reiki, written by William Lee Rand, Arjava Petter and Walter Lubeck describes Reiki as:
1. The ability to perform Reiki comes from having received an attunement, rather than developing the ability over time through the use of meditation or other exercises.
2. All Reiki techniques are part of a lineage, meaning the technique has been passed from teacher to student through an attunement process, starting with [the founder of the technique].
3. Reiki does not require that one guides the energy with the mind, as it is guided by the higher power that knows what vibration or combination of vibrations [are needed by the client].
4. Reiki can do no harm
Rei and Ki
Rei – Spiritual Wisdom
Rei essentially means the source of love & light. I will refer to this as source, for some they prefer to say God/Goddess etc, this meaning the creator, the pinnacle source of love and light from which we all emerged from and that we all have within us. Rei when translated means spiritual consciousness and the universal mind.
Ki – Prana
Ki is life energy, life force energy or Chi. It is what flows within us and what keeps us alive. It flows within our energy systems our meridians and chakras. When your prana is abundant and flowing freely, you will be healthy and at peace, when our prana flows less we cultivate sickness. Ki is influenced by our thoughts and our intentions. It can be increased by Pranayama yoga or martial arts in their physical movements.
Unlike other Ki energy Reiki cannot be abused or directed by the practitioner as it is directed by the source; hence its name Reiki. This also clears the Reiki practitioner of any karmic debt of taking on and the practitioner cannot change direction of the Reiki, the Reiki will go where it needs to but the hands are placed over specific limbs and chakras so that the energy can flow more easily and freely into the body. Reiki can only be taught by the Master Teacher to a student in an initiation process where the student is aligned to the Reiki energy from the Master.
Reiki is not connected to a religion or doctrine; anyone any age can practice it. Reiki does not discriminate with age or culture, in particular now when we are having an influx of indigo children being born into our world. For many learning Reiki is a step along their spiritual journey, that may involve multiple other modalities.
Three Levels of Reiki
The first level of Reiki creates the channel, the Reiki I is for many a start of a new beginning and spiritual journey. The minimum time apart from the Reiki 2 is 21 days which allows for the body to adjust to the Reiki energy. Reiki 1 is the foundation of all the levels and allows you take responsibility for your health. Reiki 1 teaches us to become more in balance with the universe and more in tune with ourselves. Reiki 1 can be chosen as a step towards becoming a Reiki Practitioner or as an investment in your health and a tool along your spiritual journey. Reiki 1 lets us become more intuitive and in tune with ourselves and the world around us, as well as understanding our true paths here on earth. After Reiki 1 you can heal others and animals for free or by donation for non-professional purposes.
Second degree Reiki increases the strength of your Reiki and empowers you more fully. You are given the sacred symbols, which power the Reiki. These symbols are sacred and crucial to Reiki because of their power. It is Usui Sensei’s wish that they be kept secret and not revealed outside the course. The symbols allow you to work on relationships, healing and clear patterns that are impeding your growth. The Reiki symbols can also help with any past life trauma as well as any trauma in this life. You will learn distant healing Reiki where you can send out Reiki to anyone, or anything including your own death.
In Reiki Advanced you are given the Master symbol, in some schools the Reiki Master is combined as a 3 day course, in others the Advanced and Master are split apart. After Advanced you can use the Master symbol. With the Usui Master symbol you can clear resistant blocks and your healing skills will be advanced.
Reiki Master Teacher (Shinpiden level);
This is a two-day course, which allows you to initiate students into all the levels of Reiki. A special Healing attunement is also taught which allows you to give powerful healings. To choose whether to become a Reiki Master is a decision that takes time to come to and years of practice. It is recommended a minimum of a year after the Reiki 1 as the student has much learning to do on their own. A Reiki Master is someone who has chosen to live their life in Reiki, has spent time learning and giving Reiki. it is a life long decision and a financial investment. It involves choosing to live the Reiki lifestyle in compassion and aligning ourselves with and cultivating love and letting go of what holds us back. After this you can set up your own school of Reiki to teach and attune others. You will spend the two days mainly attuning each other and learning healing attunements. During the course you give and receive many different attunements. You will be given the final sacred Reiki symbols.
Reiki has a positive effect on all ailments and throughout the reiki healing session you will be provided feedback on how to take steps to improve your health.
